Closet Stories: Introducing Pilgrim by Feather Drum

Pilgrim By Feather Drum is a personal journey to become more responsible in the way that I manufacture the clothing I design.  At the heart of Pilgrim are the following core values:

Sustainable

Removing the nasty chemicals from the clothes we put on our skin by selecting natural organic fabrics and using natural & non-toxic, low-impact dyeing techniques.

    Socially Responsible

Reducing the impact upon the environment from design right through to logistics, as well as ensuring no workers are exploited, no child labour or forced labour is being used in the manufacturing facility where the garments are produced.

      Handcrafted

Include pieces which skilled artisans have handcrafted instead of robots.

      Committed

To continuously research and develop innovative methods of producing sustainable apparel, including use of recycled raw materials, up-cycling and minimising waste. The lessons I've learnt (and continue to learn) from this pilgrimage are to be passed down and incorporated across the entire Feather Drum brand.

      AW17 Collection
Feather Drum has always been about its custom prints and knowing my intentions for Pilgrim, which was to develop a design focused eco-label, it was an opportunity to experiment with keeping things clean and streamlined, to create a line that was modern, edgy, yet still very wearable. The collection features just two natural fabrics, 100% linen which has been organically plant-dyed and hand knitted woollen pieces, created locally in Sydney by Jen O’Sullivan.  Inspired by a trip to Tokyo in 2016, Japanese inspired silhouettes feature heavily, alongside oversized, and simply structured designs. Pilgrim also marks the introduction of our carefully curated women's line.

Amongst our favourites are the minimalist Raven box shape tee paired with the Yoko front pleat culottes, available for both kids and women, the Michiko cropped leg jumpsuit which adds a utilitarian feel, and the Annie drop-waisted midi-length skirt for its unique back buckle adjustment and oversized patch pocket detail. We love the avant-garde fit of the chunky knit Bolero and of course, we couldn’t surpass some Feather Drum classic designs, such as the Amelie pussy-bow tie blouse, Woodstocker pants and Gitana dress.  Offerings for the tiniest crew members include the Eliza smock (available for all ages), adorably teamed with comfortable slouchies, the Fleetwood skirt with detachable braces, and the Japanese workwear inspired Hiroko quilted jacket, all pieces starting at size 3-6 months.

For our first venture into Women’s wear we’re offering  a small curated capsule including the Florence button-down maxi skirt, Amelie blouse, Raven Box tee, Yoko Culottes, Slouchies and Eliza smock in sizes XS (AUS size 8) and size  S (AUS size 10).

We look forward to you joining our journey
